Ron Scalzo is the owner of independent record label Bald Freak Music. Ron released three albums and various digital singles under the pseudonym Q*Ball from 2002-2012. Ron was also the vocalist in progressive metal band Return To Earth. Ron’s most recent musical project, Hipster Slaves, is a collaboration with former Return To Earth band mate Chris Pennie (Dillinger Escape Plan/Coheed & Cambria).

In addition to Ron’s own projects, the Bald Freak label released albums from guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, New Jersey pirate metal band Swashbuckle, Brooklyn alternative duo Black Pig, and NYC modern rockers The Head Set.

In 2012, Ron’s house – including the New York City studio, office and warehouse that comprised Bald Freak Music – was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.

After the flood, Ron started over as a solo artist, traveling around the world to record new music, and self-releasing The Last Q*Ball Album in 2014, You Deserve The Best in 2015, and I Gotta Rock, in 2017.

Ron has hosted and produced the Independent Minded podcast since 2012, championing the work of independent artists and musicians from around the world.  Ron was a producer and podcaster for iHeartRadio’s syndicated Elvis Duran and the Morning Show for a decade before moving his life, his piano and his crazy Westie dog Buttons to Washington DC to make stuff for NPR.

Ron likes to run, write, and eat.  Ron is a film buff.  Ron lost 2000 records in a flood but just started collecting vinyl again.  Ron’s favorite ice cream is undoubtedly Breyer’s Vanilla Fudge Twirl.  Ron is releasing new music this year.  Ron is happy.
