Borne in a scene filled with with Brooklyn hardcore and metal bands, Secret Army were a bit ahead of their time, using samples, loops and video in their pre-laptop era live sets, with two lead singers who sometimes also played drums (poorly). Secret Army’s reliance on electronics often caused on-stage mishaps at New York area clubs like The Continental, The Bank, and Maxwell’s. The band’s second show ever was during a snowstorm at UMass Amherst, they would often pack the Balcony Lounge at Webster Hall, and once played a notorious midnight show at CBGBs.
Fronted by Ron Scalzo on vocals and keys, Mike Bandolik on video and vocals, Andre “V” Verderame on bass guitar, and a revolving door of supporting players, Secret Army played their first live show in over 15 years at Lucky 13 Saloon in their hometown of Brooklyn in 2016. More to come? Only the Army knows.
