GOODBYE ELVIS DURAN, HELLO NPR

BREAKING NEWS:
I’m going to work at NPR in Washington DC.

I first visited the White House on a school trip in the 5th grade. My Dad was a chaperone on that trip, I sat next to Nelson Figueroa on the bus ride down. I thought about moving to the DC area in my mid-20s, then again about 3 years ago. I guess it wasn’t the right time. But now….

I’m leaving New York, the only state that I’ve ever known (New Jersey doesn’t count). I’m leaving Spumoni Gardens & Roll N’ Roaster, Nathan’s & Totonno’s. God damn, I’m hungry just thinking about it. I’m leaving Elvis Duran Show and Z100 after 21+ years. I’m finally up for parole.

I feel like I’ve spent most of the last decade running from something. This time, I’m running to something. And I feel like good karma and love, angels and destiny are behind it all. Lord knows I might be wrong, but as Andy Dufresne once said, “Get busy living or get busy dying.”

He also crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit-smelling foulness I can’t even imagine, so perhaps he’s a bit more resilient than I am. But I think I’m a close second….

Watch my last day at the circus – my last show intro, my last live performance – below, and try not to cry.
I’m off to DC next week to report on another circus – the US government.

CARPE DIEM!
