Ron Scalzo – I GOTTA ROCK album release show

Well I made an album. I give birth in 3 weeks.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever made, which I find myself saying every time I make something new. Which is good, because it means that I’m still getting better. I’m still learning about myself, about how much certain things matter (and don’t matter), about my insecurities, about discipline, about recovery and vulnerability, about patience and perseverance, about confidence and dedication. About love. Mostly, I’m still learning about music’s vitality. It still looms so very large in my life. Music is still where I go to get lost. Music is still where I go to find myself.

So many artists inspired me to reach this destination – 8 new songs that I will always associate with this interesting chapter in my life, one that started on a piano bench in Berlin, Germany 18 months ago and ended on a piano bench in Brooklyn, New York this past summer:

Elvis Costello, Hall & Oates, Ryan Adams, David Bowie, Prince, Beck, Bandits On The Run, The Boobies, Meat Loaf, Steely Dan, Black Wail, Lola Rhodes, RocknRoll HiFives, Sigur Rós, Flight of the Conchords, RavenEye, Holy Fuck, Faith No More, LCD Soundsystem, Metallica, Modern Chemistry, Electric Six, Chris Cornell, One Hundred Thousand, The Lemon Twigs, SOHN, Nine Inch Nails, Mark Eitzel, Vagabon, Lucky Chops, John Prine, Johnny Cash, John Lennon and of course Radiohead.

Will there be an album release show?

Yes. November 16 at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC.  John Philippidis on guitar, Chris Anderson on bass, Mario Gutierrez on drums, and me on piano, vocals, and butterflies.  Thanks to all who have taken the journey with me, in whatever way, since I started making music again 3 years ago. It’s clear to me now that the storm was good for me – that I made the right decision to forge ahead.

It’s clear to me now that I gotta rock.
