RON SCALZO – I GOTTA ROCK album update

I GOTTA ROCK is done.  I recorded the last notes at the fabulous Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, NY, just a few blocks away from the Park Slope apartment I recovered in, in the months after Superstorm Sandy.  Fitting.

The talented trio of Mario Gutierrez (drums), Matthew Taliaferro (guitar) and my longtime friend John Philippidis (bass guitar) sat in on a 2-day session to record “White Knights.” It’s the last song to be completed for my forthcoming 8 song album.  The song is an epic tale of the white hot pursuit of love and affection.  It sounds a little like Weezer, a little like The Rolling Stones, a little like Nile Rodgers, and a lot like me.

I recorded I GOTTA ROCK in 4 different studios. On 4 different gorgeous pianos. With 5 different engineers, in 2 different countries.
16 fantastic musicians contributed their talents to 8 brand new songs.  There are no table scraps here, no tunes from the vault.  I wrote every note and every lyric over these past 2 years.  As always, I was inspired by many different artists and idols, and of course, from the ladies.

So what’s next?

Final mixing and mastering, followed by a digital release on November 1 on iTunes, Bandcamp, and more.
Also a live show or two in NYC, and we’ll see what happens next.

This album was my quest, my mission, my focus and my therapy for some of 2016 and all of 2017.
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.  It’s not even out yet and I feel like it was worth every penny.
This is what I’m supposed to do.
